Content Management System (CMS) is a web application that used to create, edit, and collaborate. In web, Content management is known as Web Content Management system, normally used for creating HTML content.When we say CMS we mainly focusing on WCMS here. Most of the CMS data are stored in a database. We can collaborate more users for different taks based on different privileges. All the administration tasks carried out using a browser based interface. CMS administration area normally called as back end, interface to web visitors are called front end. Administrator can modify the front end using different templates. One of the main feature of CMS is it can be configured by a non-technical person. There will be a WYSIWYG editor to add content to CMS. Content is stored in database, and it is loaded to frontend when user visit pages.We can customize the CMS applications if we have knowledge in specific languages that CMS developed. For example Joomla CMS is based on PHP language and MySQL as database.
There are many open and commercial CMS application in which most used three are Joomla, Wordpress and Drupal.Each one has its own pros and cons.We will explain some of them in respective sections.
