Joomla SEF URL

Problem

Some times in joomla development you may  encounter problem with SEF url. When you enable SEF URL in joomla, your website may  show content with no styling (template not working). This is because of wrong configuration of joomla SEF Urls.

Joomla 1.5 it self have inbuilt SEF Url features. No third party component required.

 

Solution

Step 1. Go to Joomla Global Configuration Page

Step 2. Select Search Engine Friendly URLs to "Yes " and Add Suffix to URL "Yes"

Step 3. Before enabling apache mode_rewrite make sure that your web hosting provider enabled apache mode_rewrite.

and change htaccess.txt in your joomla root folder to .htaccess.

Step 4. Edit .htaccess and uncomment line " #RewriteEngine On"  by removing #

If you have installed joomla in root, use "RewriteBase  /" or  "RewriteBase /joomla " if you have installed joomla in "/joomla " directory.

upload edited .htaccess to your root folder.

Step 5. Goto Joomla  Global Configuration and select Use Apache mod_rewrite "Yes" .

You are done
